Tom O'Grady and George Eberts of the Southeast Ohio Astronomical Society will see the March 29, 2006 eclipse from Saloum, Egypt. This is just a few kilometers from the Lybian border. The total eclipse duration at the center line of the path of totality (about 200 km wide at this location) will last 3 minutes and 58 seconds at 10:40 Universal Time (5:40 Eastern Standard Time). Because they will not be on the exact center line, Tom and George will be in totality for about 3 1/2 minutes. The eclipse will occur about 62 degrees above the horizon at this location, which should make for good viewing (unless there is a sandstorm).

The "circle" of totality (the blue circle in the diagram) will then travel in a northeastern direction for the coast of Turkey. The center of this circle of totality will reach Side, Turkey about 17 minutes later after having traveled 800 km across the Mediterrean Sea.
